Waltham on the Wolds is the second highest place in Leicestershire and Waltham Church sits proudly in the centre of the village on a raised mounds. Built in the 13th century it has withstood many a battering and had more than a few crises.
On February 26th this year as a result of the earthquake the spire cracked for about 30 feet from the top.
This news was greeted with some dismay by the Church Council as we had just had our five-year compulsory survey on the church which had identified various parts of the building that needed urgent attention.
However, the whole church congregation is encouraged by the wonderful support from friends and neighbours and the continued interest of the media.
